3rd World Meeting of Hungarians

As the sole exhibitor from Hungary, our Foundation represented the Hungarian civil organisations at the 3rd World Meeting of Hungarians whose venue was the SYMA Program Centre between 24 and 26 May. Hungarians and foreigners arrived from over fifty countries to visit the three-day’s event and build their relationship at a festival like meeting in the spirit of “unlimited collaboration”. The special guests of the event arrived from Africa and the United Arab Emirates, and got acquainted with the exhibitors on the very first day, so they visited the pavilion of the Children Cancer Foundation, too.

On the Square of Meetings, in the Country-Pavilions the delegates of the following regions or countries presented their lands: the Carpathian Basin (Transylvania, the Uplands, Transcarpathia, the South and the Western Hungarian Borderland), the United States of America and Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, India, Latin-America, Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The visitors had the opportunity to meet the organisations of Hungarians living beyond the borders of our country, as well as the culture of their new home countries, and the building of relationships was also facilitated. Yurt, wooden houses and a tale tent were erected for the children, where they could try and play with the old toys. In the Street of Hungarian Values constructed in the World-Village, in the row of Craftsmen and on the Square of Inventions anyone could have tasted the flavours, delicate dishes and drinks of the Hungarian cuisine in the pavilions of more than one-hundred exhibitors.

The pavilion of the Children Cancer Foundation was erected in the Healing Zone, where anyone could learn more about the work of the organisation devoted to the healing of children with cancer, and also about the achievements of the past 16 years that the organisation has been functioning. Mr. István Balogh, the Chairman of our Foundation, presented in the conference room of the World-Village to the Hungarians and foreigners, arriving from all over the world, the charitable work of the foundation carried out for children with cancer.

He drew the attention to the sorrowful facts that at present, unfortunately, from among the EU countries it is still Hungary where the most people are diagnosed with cancer, and what is more terrifying the mortality is also the highest here. He old that our Foundation had worked for 16 years to get these statistics alter and a child with cancer might have the same chances for recovery as in other states of the EU. To this end our Foundation forwarded over 2 billion 400 million forints as support in the past years to the families of children with cancer, to the hospitals healing children and has supported the professional education of physicians specialised in onco-haematology for several years now.
Following the speech many offered help to unify our forces and ease the path towards recovery for the possibly most children with cancer.
