The Children Cancer Foundation donated two operating tables and an anaesthesia machine worth a total of 101 million HUF to Heim Pál Paediatric Hospital, to replace 30-year-old equipment. Dr Anikó Nagy, Director General of the hospital, said that the Foundation had been their main sponsor for the past 10 years and the institute had received everything they had asked for.

As István Balogh, President of the Children Cancer Foundation told representative of the press at the conference, the Foundation had donated a total of 3.6 billion HUF, primarily to hospitals, over a period of 18 years. “We are not manufacturing buttons. Most of the money comes from 1% personal income tax offerings. Originally, we wanted to build a paediatric hospital with our savings; the law changed, however, and now we are handing out that money, too. Recently, we have donated 96 million HUF to Heim Pál Paediatric Hospital so that a new oncological ward can be established and now, on their request, we have purchased two state-of-the-art multifunction operating tables and an anaesthesia machine also suitable for the treatment of new-born babies.” Two years ago, the Children Cancer Foundation came under heavy attack. It is over now, the Foundation has won a dozen lawsuits, but their reputation has been damaged and, as a result, their income has decreased, with less people donating 1% of their personal income tax than before. However, as István Balogh declared, they are continuing their mission as 300-320 new patients are hospitalised each year and the Foundation would like to make state-of-the-art therapy available for all of them.
